Most of the time, when making a stitch, you will need to insert the hook under both loops, but sometimes the instructions ask us to work in only one of those loops, the front one or the back one.
Working in the back loop only:
The front loops will be left in sight.
Working on the front loop only:
The back loops will be visible from the inside of the work.
